The Swirl Flames Data Repository

LDA and PDA (Laser/Phase Doppler Anemometry)

Velocity measurements presented here were taken using a standard two-channel Laser/Phase Doppler Anemometry configuration. Cold flow velocity measurements are presented in terms of axial, radial, and swirl velocity components. For reacting cases, droplet size and axial and radial velocity are presented. A schematic of the LDA/PDA system is given below.

A receiving angle between 25° (for cold flow measurements) and 30° (for reacting measurements) was used. A traverse system was used to collect data throughout the burner volume. Data are presented in terms of an x and z coordinate, as indicated in the schematic above. Either 20,000 samples or an aquisition time of 30 s were collected at each measurement location. The validation rate for the Doppler burst was near 100% and teh spherical validation was over 80% during the aquisition for all locations [Yuan PhD].
